As the son of the founder of South Town Painting Inc, I found myself in and around the business from a young age. From coming in on Saturdays to “help” my dad estimate projects, to working for him during my school’s summer breaks; I was taught from the ground up and gained experience working on all types of projects.
After high school, I spent a year at Bowling Green State University studying accounting before transferring to the University of Dayton. I finished up my final three years there and graduated with a dual major in Accounting and Finance.
Upon graduation, I began my career at The Sherwin Williams Company as an Assistant Manager. In less than two years, my hard work and experience within the company led to a promotion to Market Manager and then to Sales Representative. As the Sales Representative, I was responsible for overseeing six Sherwin Williams stores and did this for two more years before returning to the family business.
In January of 2013, I returned to South Town Painting Inc where I began the transition process of assuming the leadership role over the family business. In this role, I intend to continue the current and future business growth and development for many more years to come.
I was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1952, a long time ago. My family moved to Miamisburg, Oh the summer of 1963. At that time there was no Dayton Mall and one stoplight between Miamisburg and Centerville which was at the intersection of 725 and 741, anyone from around here would know where that is.
As a kid, I worked at 741 driving range, miniature golf and batting cages until I graduated in 1970. My father worked at NCR and painted on the side where I helped him and he taught me how to paint. After my graduation, I worked numerous different jobs until I got hired by a painting company where I worked for several years. In 1976, I decided to start my own painting company.
I struggled with a name at first, didn’t want to go by my personal name, I wanted it to be more professional. Being that I grew up in Miamisburg which is south of Dayton and that’s where I did most of my painting, I came up with South Town Painting.
At that time, we were a small company doing a lot of residential painting and when my brother Dave Elmore became my partner a few years later we started doing more commercial work and have grown quite a bit since then. My son Drew Elmore came on board in 2013 with the plan to take over the business, which he has done so and doing a fabulous job.
